It can be really frustrating, unmotivating and challenging when we are first diagnosed with the coeliac disease. It may not be so easy at first to understand and accept all the restrictions and limitations one has to follow in order to take care of our bodies and alleviate the terrible symptoms we are experiencing. Not everyone seems to understand the life- changes with need to make, certain pleasures we feel we have to give up, and the mixture of emotions we feel during this journey. We get you! and believe us, you are not alone...

Did you know that 1 in a 100 people in the UK have coeliac disease, but only 36% are diagnosed? We want to be part of the movement to get more people on the road to recovery, more quickly, that's why we are participating in the coeliac awareness week, which starts from 9th May to 15th May, with the aim of raising awareness about this misunderstood disease.

If you don't really know about the coeliac disease, allow us tell you just a little bit about it: When people with the disease eat gluten as part of their diet (wheat, barley and rye) they experience many different symptoms such as abdominal pain, bloating, constipation, diarrhoea, gas, heartburn, anaemia, joint pain and others. When not treated, it can cause gut damage and serious health complications like osteoporosis. The only treatment for this disease is a strict gluten-free diet for life. On a gluten-free diet symptoms start to improve quite quickly.
At first it may be quite challenging to understand what we can and cannot eat, to give up to so many of the things that we used to consider our favourite foods, but once we start this journey we realize is easier than we think! it doesn't really have to be a struggle once we understand and find all the many wonderful options out there for us to also enjoy. So yes! we'll have new favourites, new delicious flavours to discover and if we are a glass-fuller kind of guy/gal, it can also be super fun and exciting to search for new invigorating and tasty treats! feeling good is what really matters, yes, but we can definitely have some fun along the way too.
So instead of focusing on what we cannot eat, there is a whole new world of deliciousness to discover and savour! exciting huh?
